Basic Leader Training 2015

The Shenandoah Area Council announces the Basic Leader Training Course for 2015.  This two-part course is the required basic training for all adult leader positions in Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Venturing Crews.  Fast Start Training for your registered program and This is Scouting are prerequisites for taking this course.  Just go to myscouting.org and log into or create an account.

Location:

  • Leader Specific Training:  First Presbyterian Church at 116 South Loudoun Street, Winchester
  • BALOO and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills will be held at Camp Rock Enon in Gore

Leader Specific Training:  Required for all adult leaders and provides the specialized knowledge needed for unit leaders to assume a leadership role in their specific scouting position.  Leader Specific Training will be held:

  • Saturday, March 21, 2015
  • Sign - in will begin at 7:30am
  • Training starts promptly at 8am and should end by 5pm or before. 
  • Lunch will be on your own.
  • Uniform is Class A Uniform for your registered position.
  • $5 early registration fee if registered BY 2/27/15
  • $10 registration fee BY 3/13/15
  • Registration ENDS on 3/13/15

Commissioner Basic Training:  Are you an experienced Scouting Parent or Leader who would like to find out more about what a Unit Commissioner does?  A good commissioner can make the difference between a pack, troop, crew or team that is struggling, and one that is ready to take on the world.  Learn how to make this difference!  After all, our kids deserve it!  EVERY District needs more Unit Commissioners to mentor our unit leaders and be a resource for them.  Being a Unit Commissioner is not hard and is VERY REWARDING!

Commissioner Basic Training will be offered to all new commissioners and those who wish to "brush up on their skills"  This course will include:

  • The role of the commissioner
  • Unit Visitations
  • Membership Management
  • The Charter Renewal Process
  • Commissioner Awards & Honors
  • and much more!

The training is for:

  • Unit Commissioners
  • District Commissioners
  • Assistant District Commissioners
  • and Interested Scouters

Everyone interested in Commissioner Service is invited and encouraged to attend.  Completion of this course will allow you to wear the trained patch with the Unit Comissioner emblem.

BALOO:  (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) introduces Cub Scout leaders and parents to the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack outdoor activities, particularly Pack camping.  This is required for any adults conducting Cub Scout Pack outdoor activities. 

  • Held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Camp Rock Enon; Gore, VA
  • Check in is at 8:30am on the porch of the Trading Post
  • Training begins at 9am and should conclude by 5pm
  • Lunch is included
  • Uniform is the Class A uniform of your registered program
  • $15 early registration BY 2/27/15
  • $30 registration BY 3/13/15
  • Registration ENDS on 3/13/15

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills -  Outdoor sills are critical to the success of the Scouting program.  Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills provides adult leaders with teh basic outdoor skills and informtion needed to run the program right.  The program focuses on skills that build confidence in leaders conducting outdoor camping experiences. 

This Training is REQUIRED for:

  • Scoutmasters
  • Assistant Scoutmasters
  • Varsity Team Coaches & Assistants
  • Venture Crew Leaders
  • WEBELOS Den Leaders & assistants

It will be held:

  • Friday - Sunday March 27 - 29, 2015 at Camp Rock Enon; Gore, VA
  • Check in will begin at 5pm on Friday
  • Training begins promptly at 7pm
  • Supper will NOT be served on Friday, please plan accordingly.

Please make every effort to arrive at camp as early as possible, allowing time to prepare campsites before dark. 

All meals are provided except supper on Friday.  Participants will be assigned to patrols for the October session during Leader Specific Training. 

  • Uniform is the Class A uniform for your registered program
  • Please Note:  A copy of your BSA Medical Form is required for this event and must be turned in at check in.
