How to Support Us

Support Scouting

As a nonprofit organization, fundraising is very important. These funds provide for professional staff supervision, organization of new Scouting units, service for existing units, training of volunteer leaders, and maintenance of Camp Rock Enon that includes a full time ranger.  They also finance the operation and upkeep of your council service center, where volunteer leaders can obtain literature, insignia, advancement badges, and other items vital to the program. In addition, the service center maintains advancement and membership records.  In addition, these funds help to provide a Council Support Staff to assist volunteer leaders and parents.

The annual Friends of Scouting campaign is an opportunity for communities, businesses and families to support the Scouting Movement in the Northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.  The annual Trails End Popcorn Sale is a well-known fundraiser for Scouts of all ages, where prizes and up to 45% of the sales of the popcorn go directly to the Unit.

There are plenty of other methods to support Scouting as well.  These include both The SAC Foundation and contributing through Capital Funds.

In addition, there are numerous special events held where you can have fun and support Scouting at the same time.  These include:

Friends of Scouting

The annual Friends of Scouting campaign is an opportunity for communities, businesses and families to support the Scouting Movement in the Shenandoah Area Council.

During the months of November through March, each Pack, Troop, Crew and Post should schedule a "Family" Friends of Scouting presentation. This presentation explains to parents how our Council is financed and educates them about our wonderful facilities.

The annual "Friends of Scouting" drive raises approximately 5% of the operating budget each year. On average, $149 per youth is needed to provide programs for one year.
