Scouts BSA Summer Camp

During these uncertain times as we address issues related to the COVID-19 virus, many people are asking,

"Will there be Summer Camp this year?"

It is important for everyone to know that it is our intention to conduct Summer Camp at Camp Rock Enon in 2020.
We continue to make the normal preparations for Summer Camp just as we would every year.
But because of this virus, conditions remain very fluid, and we will keep you apprised as more information is available.
Below is some important information that you should know to help your Troop prepare for Summer Camp this year.

But before that...
  • We have hired a great staff for this Summer and are working on training and preparations so they are ready to teach all of the merit badges offered at Summer Camp.
  • We continue to work on camp improvements including our new Sasquatch's Shooting Gallery action shooting range and the Sporting Arrows range.
  • We are also very excited about our new Mountain Biking trail that will be open this Summer at CRE.
  • New this Summer, the staff has come up with some new fun and exciting evening activities. Here are just a few of them:
    • Human Stratego - a camp-wide field game combining capture the flag, card games and tag. A spin on the classic board game Stratego!
    • Tank Commander - Build your own Troop Tank and navigate your way through our obstacle course before the competition.
    • Catapult Challenge - Construct your own Troop Catapult (or use ours) to see how far you can go. Are you good enough to hit the target?

Ask anyone what they think of when you say "Scouts" and the vast majority will mention camping and the outdoors.  That's why here in the Shenandoah Area Council, we've worked hard to build an incredible camp and create a summer camping program that is fun, adventurous and an incredible learning experience.

Summer Camp at Camp Rock Enon is filled with fun and exciting adventure for Scouts of all ages.  Our 877 acres of majestic forest in the northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia provide an unlimited supply of opportunities to make your stay at CRE an experience of a lifetime.  Scouts learn and explore as they seek the adventures only a summer camp experience can provide.

Here is a brief overview of some of the programs available while at CRE for your new and veteran Scouts.

  • Shooting sports
  • Natural rock climbing & rappelling
  • Canoeing
  • Row boating
  • Kayaking
  • Swimming
  • Lifesaving and Lifeguard training
  • Outdoor skills
  • Hiking
  • Nature
  • Field Sports
  • Handicraft
  • and so much MORE!

We also offer over 40 merit badges and our Frontier program for first year Scouts.

We want you to know that we are prepared for the addition of females to Scouts BSA Summer Camp.

  • We already have separate and private shower houses.
  • We can accommodate the girls with Troops who have shared leadership
  • Your wish is our command.  We will try everything in our power to accommodate everyone at CRE!
  • Please note:  You may be asked ahead of time how many girls are in the troop so we can be sure to accommodate the campsites as needed.  If you know ahead of time, please email Kari Judson so she has that information on file to save you a step later on.

Your veteran Scouts may want to try one of our Specialty Camps such as:

  • Virginia Backwoods Mountain Man Rendezvous.  Step back in time and enter the world of the Virginia Frontier!  Scouts 13 and older will spend a week in our NEW Rendezvous Camp, experiencing the primitive life of the early Virginia pioneers.
