National Board Approves New Membership Standards Policy
To the SAC Scouting family,
Earlier today the National Board approved the new resolution removing the ban on homosexual youth from the national membership standards. The policy change is effective January 1, 2014. The assembled national voting members voted 61%-38% to approve. This decision comes following an extensive listening campaign that gathered input from members, non-members and key community organizations across the nation.
Our Council supports the national board’s decision. We recognize that some of our members will be disappointed with the outcome, but we believe a good partnership does not require full agreement on every societal issue. Most importantly, we can now devote our full attention to providing a great program that helps young people be prepared for life.
Over the next few months there will be many challenges we need to resolve. The national implementation team will be reviewing the new policy and issuing updated guidelines, so for now our plan is to stay focused on what is best for the our Scouts and move forward as one Scouting family.

Thank you for your support throughout this process, and we look forward to seeing you all at camp!
