Shenandoah Area Council
Volunteer Training Policy
June 19, 2017
Overview
Recognizing the importance of a quality program, and the desire of reducing risk management and improving retention, we require all registered volunteers at all levels to be fully trained for their position(s) as defined by National BSA including Youth Protection Training.
Youth Protection Training
No adult regardless of position, age 18 and older, will be registered at the time of application or at time of rechartering. Noncompliance will result in membership being expired temporarily until YPT certification is provided.
Leader Position Training
New adults or current adults changing positions must be Leader Position Trained as found at www.scouting.org/training/adult within 60 days of their registration. Those requiring Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS), must complete IOLS within 6 months of their registration. Noncompliance will result in membership being expired temporarily until YPT certification is provided.
Training Opportunities
Leader Position Training can be taken online at www.my.scouting.org or in person within the districts. IOLS will be provided by the council in the spring and during each week of Summer Camp. Districts may provide IOLS during the year as needed. Listed below is scheduled training courses within the council
