Cyberquipe Tools

Tech Requirements

Cyberquipe uses Google Classroom and Google Suite Applications (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Google Meet). Cyberquipe is FULLY VIRTUAL.

Scouts will use Google Classroom to connect with their merit badge counselors and submit proof that they have completed requirements.

Scouts will be given a Cyberquipe.com email. This is a Gmail account that is part of the Shenandoah Area nonprofit G Suite. We will send the login information to the email that is listed for the participant in Tentaroo. The account will remain active through the end of the summer. Once accounts close, all data and documents are deleted and unrecoverable. Scouts should back up any work they wish to keep. Click here for Gmail & Classroom FAQs.

Here is a Parent Pre-Camp Slideshow to assist you as you navigate Cyberquipe.

Here's a video to walk you through getting your Cyberquipe email and accepting a class invitation.

Joining a Google Classroom
Scouts should receive an email invitation to their Cyberquipe emails by Monday morning. Once they click the Join button, they'll be taken to the course. They need to make sure they are in the Cyberquipe Google Classroom and haven't switched to a personal Gmail account or school account. If a scout clicks to join a class and it says something like the class does not exist, then it's likely that a personal Gmail account is interfering. To avoid this, go to the browser menu and open a guest, private or incognito window. Then sign back into Gmail or Google Classroom.

Submitting Assignments
Lesson #1: Google Drive is your storage area. You can save any kind of file to Drive. For us, that probably means docs, slides, pictures and videos. For each assignment in Classroom, scouts can click to add an item from their Drive and attach it.

Here is a document with ideas of what to use for different types of requirements.

Most counselors will accept any format for the requirements unless it's specified by the requirement or the course setup. Often these badges will be what you make them. If you think the easy way is to write a paragraph and you do that for everything this week, camp will probably feel tedious and boring. If you want to feel like you're doing something, then DO something and record a video. The goal is to try these activities out, not just say what you would do. Choose fun when you can!

Another idea: If your class has an Icebreaker or a whole-group Meet, reach out to another scout. Maybe you can set up your own video chat and work on requirements together. You still need to submit your own work, but it would be more fun to talk through the badge with someone, especially if you have questions.

Google Meet
If scouts and counselors need to video chat, we will use Google Meet. This service is built right into Google Classroom. This link is to a document that introduces Meet, lists its device requirements, and explains how to use it.

Cyberquipe FAQs for Scouts
If your scout runs into a problem in Google Classroom, their first step is to reach out to the counselor if that's possible. Many counselors posted this Cyberquipe FAQs document for scouts but parents and leaders may find it helpful.

Our videos for the week are available on the Cyberquipe YouTube channel.

Blue cards will be available on Tentaroo about one week after camp ends. The adult who registered the scout will be the one who can print the information.
